Winter time in Colorado.
There's not quite anything like it.Beautiful, icy cold days backed with warm, spring like days. It's a universal feeling that cold is bad, and warm is good, but this climate may be the only one that cultivates a love of both. Not even cold-haters can be too miserable here, where it can go from thirty degrees one to sixty-five the next.
And never underestimate the power of snow. It sucks to travel in. It sucks to stand in. I sucks to get caught in. But early in the morning, when no one is on the streets yet, and everything is covered in a sparkly white stuff, the first that is, 'That's gorgeous.' THEN it's, 'Driving today is going to suck.'

Dear, World.
Once upon a time, in a little college bookstore, three friends were drawn together by their love of the written word. They conferred, and decided to make it a thing, a group that would meet together after work. Members came and went, but two always stayed the same.
Once upon a later, that selfsame group met another group, and they decided to merge their creative pursuits. Members always are in flux, the size is slowly growing, and slowly people are finding their places. Dominating the local coffee house once a week, we are known as Denver Drink and Draw.

HOLY CRAP, I SUCK.
How many months since this poor blog was updated? Too many.
It's the later middle of the summer, and it gorgeous. Outside of my deck is a sprawling golf course, which I think is a useless waste of land, but the spread of green, trees and the lake not five hundred yards from my back deck is an amazing view. I hope everyone gets out at least once this summer, and just enjoys the scenery, be it city, suburb or country (or whatever-go enjoy it.)
While the prestigious Mr. Prince has been busy churning out chronicles of the worlds (and words) swirling around in his head, this Lady has been busy writing comics, learning to cook and bake, and on the side managing to learn a little origami. I can make a crane! And a flower. I am truly accomplished.
The artists have been busy arting, and D&D has been thinking about renting a studio, for gallery space and twenty four hour access to a quiet space to draw, paint or write. So, look for a possible gallery of your favorite local artists in the next year.
Cellar Door has closed submissions, and will be publishing the first issue in the middle of August. Although, if anyone feels so inclined, as long as you let us know in your e-mail, we can start looking at stories for the next issue.

Weekends.
Well, it's been a little bit since I last posted. Whoops!
ComicFest was this past month, and it was fantastic! D&D had it's own table, with Bob Parks, Khundy Son, Joe Oliver and Leila Del Duca manning it. Lonnie Allen and Scorpio Steele had their own tables, Amy Reeder was there, Time Warp Comics and Indie Spinner Rack, among many, many more amazing people.
Everyone spend too much money on comics, and had a great time.

OMG
So, as you all know, last night was a Group night (saying just Drink and Draw betrays my place as VP of Writer's Group ;).) In addition to spring inspiring us to start writing and drawing more, the Westword came to cover us!
We are getting known. o.O
More neat submissions have come in, too! The expected launch date for the magazine is this summer, and it will be full of awesome stories, poetry and art.
Sometimes I'm still amazed group is still around. I'm sure Drink and Draw would still be around, but I mean the group as a whole-writers and artists. It was about two years ago that the little Writer's Group began, and about a year ago that we Hamza, who introduced us to people who everyone in our small group would come to know and love. In addition to making some close friendships, it's given us a lot of momentum. Both groups lost a couple of people in the merge, but it made a lot of great things happen.
Anyway-thanks to Lonnie M.F. Allen for getting the Westword here, and here's to more good years!

Updates and new stuff.
The Film Festival has come and gone with much success. All the films we got were great, and covered many genres, from comedy to psychological thrillers to music videos. There was a great turnout, and we sold art, posters, postcards and pins successfully!
So, many thanks to the great people who contributed films, art and their time to make it a success. Special thanks to the ever amazing Mr. Michael Prince for arranging it<3 <3 <3
Next item is the magazine/journal itself! Cellar Door is calling for submissions for our first issue, coming out in a few months. We're accepting all sorts of work, so check out the Call For Talent.
Technical difficulties have occurred, your illustrious blogger is having problems getting the Call For Talent up on here, but rest assured, it'll make it's way up here in the next couple of days.
For the time being, we'll stick with this: we're accepting black and white or grey scale art/photography, short stories, poetry and comics. Under copyright law, you retail all rights to any work published and will be contacted if we decide to include it in later works and/or podcasts. If you choose to submit, in our effort to keep things timely, we'll contact you within thirty days or prod us we'll apologize profusely. There's a lot more detail in the official call, and after 'technical difficulties' have been sorted out, we'll either get the whole thing up on here or get a link to it. Email submissions or questions to Cellar.Door.Book@gmail.com!

The interwebz
For a lot of people out there, having a webcomic they follow regularly isn't a strange thing at all. I've been following several for the past four years or so, but I've also seen a lot die, or just degrade in quality for the sake of fast output. Good writing is a honed skill, and when a writer starts out good, if he or she keeps up a dedication to quality, things can only get better.
So, in the the eternal search for new reading material, I stumbled across Warren Ellis's ongoing webcomic, FreakAngels. Warren Ellis is a fairly well known writer for comics, so it's likely anyone reading this will have already heard of it and/or read it through.
If you haven't, you really aught to. Beautifully illustrated by Paul Duffield (and colored by his small team), written by Warren Ellis and interspersed with entertaining and sometimes educational interludes, it's worthy of all the awards it's won.

A little information.
Hello, world!
A little introduction seems to be in order. I, the writer, am the VP of Denver Writer's Group, AKA Leela Starving Artist Society. We're a joint group with Denver Drink and Draw, and both groups make our base at Leelas European Cafe, a 24 hour cafe in downtown Denver.
We get together every Tuesday and some Thursdays to toss around ideas, socialize, get feedback our work and have a place outside of our homes to work on projects. Coming up soon, we'll be hosting a small film festival to raise money to put out our own little baby magazine of our own into the big world.
Writer's Group has been meeting for about two years. It all began with a few bored bookstore employees who wanted to share their writing, get feedback and get new ideas. Mr. Prince is the Grand Poobah/President, myself (Mademoiselle Calvert) the Archivist/VP, and a couple others we picked up along the way. We merged with Denver Drink and Draw close to a year ago, a local group of artist/comic artists. Some of the major players there are Lonnie Allen, Hamza Pecenkovic and Frank Romero.
Summary over! We'll update about our comings and goings, post various links and the like on here.
